Drop bags, change into island mode. Meet your friend (hostel ~1 km away). Hotel has pool + free breakfast tomorrow.

Stroll Kalakaua Ave see

Walk International Marketplace, Kuhio Beach. Get oriented. Waikiki sunset is the welcome committee.

DINNER

First dinner on island eat

Keep it casual — food court, local family restaurant on the strip. ~$25/person. Don't overthink it, you just landed.

North Shore

Hyatt breakfast + pick up car drive

Free hotel breakfast, then grab rental at HNL. Enterprise or Hertz — ~$40–55/day compact. Shuttle from airport.

8–10

Kailua & Lanikai Beach beach

Drive via H-1 & Likelike Hwy (1 hr). Famous east side beaches — swim, photos, turquoise water. Park along Kailua Rd.

10–12

Waimea Valley + Falls hike

30 min from Kailua via Pali Hwy. Walk to Waimea Falls through botanical gardens. ~1 hr, ~$22 entry. Bring a swimsuit — you can swim at the falls.

NOON

Banzai Pipeline beach

15 min from Waimea. Legendary surf spot — watch the waves, walk the beach. Free parking on Kamehameha Hwy.

1PM

North Shore lunch eat

Kahuku shrimp trucks (Giovanni's is the classic) or Haleiwa town.

2PM

Haleiwa Town see

Browse surf shops, art galleries, shave ice. Classic North Shore town vibes.

3PM

Laniakea (Turtle Beach) see

20 min north of Haleiwa. Hawaiian green sea turtles on the beach. Free. Don't touch the turtles.

4PM

Drive back + return car drive

Return via H-2 & H-1 (~1 hr). Drop car by ~6 PM (24h timer). Dinner in Waikiki.

Dinner in Waikiki eat

You drove the whole north shore. Eat well tonight.

Day 03 · Fri Apr 4

Pearl Harbor & Diamond Head

Pearl Harbor history

TheBus Route 52 via Downtown (~$3.25) or taxi. USS Arizona Memorial + Visitor Center. Plan 2–3 hrs. Tickets are free via Recreation.gov ($1 service fee) — book in advance.

⚠️ Book ahead: USS Arizona tickets sell out. Go to recreation.gov → "Pearl Harbor National Memorial"

Return to Waikiki + lunch eat

Bus or taxi back (~45 min). Grab lunch at hotel or local café before the hike.

Diamond Head Hike hike

0.8 mi Summit Trail, ~1.5 hrs round trip. $5/person entry (non-resident). Reservation required — book at gostateparks.hawaii.gov. Panoramic ocean views from the top.

⚠️ Reservation required for non-residents. $5/person or $10/car.
3PM

Kapiolani Park vibe

Walk through on the way back from Diamond Head. Chill park, views of the crater behind you. Honolulu Zoo is here too ($21) if you want it.

EVE

Dinner in Waikiki eat

Treat yourself — you hiked and learned some history. Loco moco, fresh poke, or something nicer. ~$30/person.

No alarm. Two big days behind you. Use the free breakfast, take your time.

Beach day — zero plans beach

Kuhio Beach or Sans Souci. Snorkel gear from any ABC Store. Read, swim, nap. The best vacation days have no schedule.

AFT

Ala Moana or Waikiki Aquarium see

Mall is 1 mi from hotel. Aquarium (9 AM–4:30 PM) is a chill option. Or keep doing nothing — equally valid.

4PM

Sunset + drinks vibe

Meet your friend for sunset drinks. House Without A Key at Halekulani is the move — live Hawaiian music, ocean view, no cover.

EVE

Dinner eat

Wherever feels right. Plate lunch or something beachfront. ~$15–25/person.

Day 05 · Sun Apr 6

East Oahu

Hanauma Bay snorkeling beach

Pick up car, drive 30 min via Kalanianaole Hwy. Arrive at opening to beat crowds. $25/person + $3 parking. Video orientation required. Best snorkeling on the island — 2–3 hrs here.

10AM

Makapu'u Lighthouse Hike hike

15 min from Hanauma. 2 mi round trip, ~1 hr. Ocean views, sometimes you can see Moloka'i. Paved trail, free.

NOON

Halona Blowhole see

Quick stop — 10 min. Scenic lookout, watch the water shoot through volcanic rock. Free, small parking area.

1PM

Lunch eat

Grab food in Hawaii Kai or on the go — sandwiches, smoothie, whatever's quick.

2PM

Lanikai / Kailua round two beach

20 min from Makapu'u. One more round at the prettiest beach on Oahu. Rent beach chairs, float, soak it up.

4PM

Drive back + return car drive

Via H-1 (~1 hr). Return car by 6 PM. Total loop ~70 mi, ~$20–30 gas.

EVE

Farewell dinner eat

Last real night — make it count. Best meal of the trip goes here.

One final free breakfast. Quick beach walk if there's time.

Check out + last-minute go

Pack up, check out. Quick visit to Iolani Palace or grab souvenirs if your flight is later. Don't forget the sunscreen in the bathroom.
